Plans: religious life and Greek life

Two specs plan how to show faith communities and fraternity and sorority life at every college, starting from a UT Austin case study.

What's planned

  • Religious life: religious affiliation, how central faith is to campus life, and the faith communities on campus.
  • Greek life: fraternity and sorority participation, councils, housing, and recruitment.

Each spec works through one college in detail (UT Austin), ranks sources by how much to trust them, and plans a crawl of all 1,893 colleges, the data model, the design, and the phases.

What the research found

  • Three sources give three different numbers for UT Austin's Jewish student population (2,750, 4,000+, and about 5,000), so the site will need to show where each figure comes from.
  • UT's Common Data Set Greek-life percentages match its own chapter reports (7,191 members in spring 2026).
  • Reading national organizations' directories, one crawl each, replaces most of the 10–20 lookups each college would otherwise need.
