What's planned
Each college's profile will open with a short overview: one card per topic (getting in, students and campus, academics, cost and aid, outcomes, and how it's changed), each showing the few numbers people quote most, a small chart, and a one-line takeaway. Tapping a card opens a page for that topic with everything the profile shows today. On phones that means a card, a tap, a page, and back; tablets get the desktop layout with the long chart groups folded.
Nothing is removed: every chart and figure moves to its topic page, and every number keeps its citation. Read the plan, including the four layouts that were considered and how they were scored, on the profile-redesign.md.
Behind the scenes
The review measured the profile at three widths (about 23,000 pixels tall on a desktop and 33,000 on a tablet, with 395 charts on one page), looked at how BigFuture, CollegeVine, Appily, Niche, US News, and College Scorecard organize the same information, and applied the usability research on tabs, accordions, and progressive disclosure. The roadmap gains a "Design and usability" group for this kind of work. Nothing is built yet.
